Fairmont State University has remained stable due to its financial position and leadership under President Mirta Martin.

The results from the 2020 audit were highlighted by the University’s independent auditing firm, Suttle and Dr. Mirta Martin named President by Fairmont State Board of Governors. Dr. Mirta Martin is scheduled to officially begin her presidency on Jan. 1, 2018. Mirta Martin takes over duties from interim President Stephen B. Jones.

The results from the 2020 audit were highlighted by the University’s independent auditing firm, Suttle and Stalnaker, during today’s Board of Governors meeting. The findings demonstrated the University concluded its fiscal year in strong financial standing for the third consecutive year.

In the past 30 years, Fairmont State University President Dr. Mirta Martin has made her mark on higher education, leading her to capture the WVNews.com’s Educator of the Year Award for 2019.

Now more than ever before, it’s vital to fully fund higher education in West Virginia. At the very time when we need to be developing a critical mass of talented graduates and universities in our state; at a time when 40 other states have chosen to increase their investment in higher education, West Virginia has chosen to cut funding for higher education over the last five years by 20.6 percent - the largest cut by far of any state in the nation.

The Fairmont State University Board of Governors announces Dr. Mirta M. Martin as president-elect of the university, pending approval from the Higher Education Policy Commission. Dr. Martin is scheduled to officially begin her presidency on Jan. 1, 2018.

September is one of my favorite times of the year. The weather is cooler. There is a hint of color in the trees. And, another academic year of great promise begins.
